The Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury held their 16th annual Michael O'Reilly Organ Donor Awareness Celebration on Sept. 26.

The day long celebration was held at Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in an effort to raise awareness around the importance of organ donors, with the overarching message, “one saves eight.”

“One person can donate up to eight organs and save the lives of eight people,” said event organizer Nicholas Zannier.

“If you had something material that you had no use for and someone else needed it to live you would give it to them, so why not do the same with organs.”

The event was kicked off with a walk from the amphitheatre down Paris Street to Science North and back down the boardwalk to Grace Hartman.

“This is a day to promote organ donation and show bystanders and motorists driving by the amount of support that there is for this cause,” said Zannier.

Guest speakers took the stage to speak about how organ donation has impacted their lives and there were stations set up for those in attendance to register to become organ donors.
