Acts of Kindness: A first Nickel City Christmas treat for Sudbury's first Syrian family

Nearly one year since the Qarquoz family arrived in Canada

Welcome back to Sudbury.com's 12 Days of Kindness.

It's been nearly a year since the Qarquoz family arrived in Sudbury as part of the first wave of Syrian refugees to settle in Canada.

The experience of transitioning to life in Canada is different for every newcomer but the greatest challenges lie in finding work, learning English and establishing independence.

Huntington University wanted to recognize the successes of the Qarquoz family: celebrating a new home, new school, new jobs and a new addition to the family.

They think we are here to talk to them about their first year in Canada, but we have more than one surprise up our sleeve!

Make sure to check back to Sudbury.com every weekday morning until Dec. 23 as we surprise 12 worthy people with a little kindness just in time for the holidays.

Do you know someone who is deserving of an act of kindness? Nominate them to be Sudbury.com next Acts of Kindness recipient at Sudbury.com/AOK.
