On Aug. 21, the New Sudbury Centre kicked off back-to-school season by introducing Augmented Reality (AR) into the mall-going experience.

This new experience will allow users to take pictures with items sold in the mall. These items, for example a giant back pack, can only be seen through the lens of your camera phone.

Users need to download the free Zappar app to witness and be a part of a larger than life campaign. Not only will shoppers be able to take amazing photos, but they will be entered into a contest for a $500 gift card.

“Our goal is to make a trip through the mall an experience you can’t get anywhere else. Technology allows people to shop from home," said Brenda Folz Marketing Director, New Sudbury Centre.

"It also allows us to turn the shopping experience into something new and exciting. They can come to a place they’ve been before and see it in a whole new way.”

Augmented Reality saw a massive boom in 2016 when Pokémon Go entered the app store. The streets of many major cities including Greater Sudbury were packed with people of all ages.

Everyone was trying to “catch them all”. The New Sudbury Centre capitalized early and ran the city’s largest group Pokémon hunt. According to FutureProcessing.com, by 2017 AR applications are predicted to generate $300 billion revenue.

Make sure to check out the New Sudbury Centre and find all the objects to get your larger than life photos.
