Andrew Desjardins brings Stanley Cup home July 6

Stanley Cup champion and Lively native Andrew Desjardins will bring the famous trophy to Sudbury July 6. Desjardins, a forward with the Chicago Blackhawks, will be at the Tom Davies Community Centre and arena in Walden on Monday, July 6 from 11 a.m.

Stanley Cup champion and Lively native Andrew Desjardins will bring the famous trophy to Sudbury July 6.

Desjardins, a forward with the Chicago Blackhawks, will be at the Tom Davies Community Centre and arena in Walden on Monday, July 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., confirmed Sudbury Ward 2 Coun. Michael Vagnini this morning.

“For Andrew, it was always his dream to bring the cup back to Walden Arena, where he played most of his minor hockey,” Vagnini said.

Desjardins will sign autographs for local fans and encourages donations to the local food bank.

“I can't believe I'm going to get the privilege of taking the Stanley Cup to my hometown of Lively,” Desjardins wrote in a blog on NHL.com he updated throughout the Stanley Cup Final.

Vagnini said he expects a large crowd of Desjardins' friends, family and fans to welcome and congratulate him for bringing home the biggest prize in hockey.
