As many senior citizens choose to continue living at home, advice is being offered to elderly residents of Sudbury, and their family caregivers, on how to live safely and securely.

The Home Instead Senior Care organization in Sudbury is hosting its fourth annual Aging In Place event on Oct. 23. But things will be a bit different this year, as you might expect.

The 2020 event will be online only. Home Instead said the concept is to ensure the health and safety of participants as they can listen in to expert speakers and see what exhibitors have to offer, from the comfort of their own homes.

The conference will feature speakers and exhibitors between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

“The online event is the first of its kind for the region, allowing family caregivers from Ontario to access information about ageing in place in Sudbury and the North," said a news release for the event.

Some of the speakers for this year’s event include Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré, Home Instead Senior Care’s community outreach co-ordinator Nikki Sage, and health promotion co-ordinator with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kayla Belanger.

In addition to that, there will be virtual exhibits and displays from local retirement communities, health and home care providers, Service Canada and Sudbury Public Health (among others).  Some of the exhibitors will be hosting online Q&A sessions for seniors and family caregivers.

Participants are encouraged to register early.
