The Michael O'Reilly Organ Donor Celebration takes place at Bell Park on May 14.

The annual event, organized by the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury, is meant to increase organ donor rates in Greater Sudbury.

There are currently around 1,600 people in Ontario who are waiting for life-saving organs to become available.
The Trillium Gift of Life Network says a single organ donor can save up to eight lives.

Organ donor rates in Ontario overall are around 29 per cent, but in Greater Sudbury they are closer to 53 per cent.
Saturday's event starts at the Bell Park Amphitheatre at 10 a.m., and will allow people to register as organ donors on the spot.

It's also possible to register online at beadonor.ca.
