An artist has been charged with vandalizing the Sudbury water tower, Greater Sudbury Police said Tuesday.

Isaac Weber, 31, turned himself in at 8 a.m. Tuesday, when he was charged with Mischief Under $5,000. The damage to the water tower was estimated at approximately $2,850, the release said.

Weber is charged in connection with a July 10 incident when the word “SKODEN” had been painted across the word “SUDBURY.”

After receiving the complaint, police canvassed the area for information on and video surveillance footage of the incident with no luck.

“Through an anonymous tip, we received information that an art event had taken place in Greater Sudbury where a participant painted an image of the water tower with the word 'SKODEN' across it,” the release said. “Officers contacted the organizer of the event and were able to obtain a photo of the painting, as well as a photo and the name of the artist.

"Through additional investigation, officers developed reasonable grounds to believe that they identified the person responsible for the graffiti on the water tower.”

Dario Zulich, who owns the tower, painted over the graffiti earlier this month.
