Concession stands at Bell Park and Moonlight Beach in Sudbury remain closed this summer because the city didn't receive any bids from companies interested in running them.
Ward 11 Coun. Terry Kett raised the issue at the July 9 meeting of the operations committee. He suggested the rent charged to prospective operators may be too high to make it profitable.
He suggested allowing hotdog vendors into the park if no one is interested in running the stands. Staff said they would look into that, and are also considering installing vending machines at the beaches.
Ward 10 Coun. Frances Caldarelli said it's important to give people options to buy confections when they go swimming or “it's just not summer at the beach ...”
