As it celebrates its first anniversary, the Sudbury Bereaved by Suicide Support Group will host a special meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 8, ahead of International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day.
The group will host a screening of the documentary “Life Journeys: Reclaiming Life After Loss”, which tells the stories of people who have successfully recovered after losing a loved one to suicide.
Group member Cindy Shyminsky said the film gives people hope they can get through a difficult time, and also leads to important discussions and advice on how to recover from a loss to suicide.
Liliane Tambeau, who is also a member of the Sudbury Bereaved by Suicide Support Group, said they are also planning to host sessions on different topics – starting in December or January – to provide people with tools on how to deal with triggers, move on after a loss, the different stages of grief and other topics.
“Attending these sessions that we have gives that opportunity to open up,” she said.
When someone joins the group, they are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement to make sure discussions don't leave the safety of the group.
“Whatever is said in the group stays in the group,” Tambeau said. “It's a safe space to be.”
The meeting on Nov. 8 is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and will take place at the Marguerite Lougheed Centre, located at 328 Albert St.
