About 20 Sudbury-based Brinks Canada Limited workers have ratified a new three-year deal with their employers.

The workers, along with 1,000 other Brinks employees across the province, are represented by the Canadian Auto Workers. They voted 82 per cent in favour of ratifying the deal.

The new contract is effective Aug. 27, and includes improvements in many areas, including benefits, a $2.30 wage increase over three years, benefits for pensioners and no changes to the defined pension plan.

A press release put out by Mine Mill Local 598/CAW said this is the fourth collective agreement reached successfully by the union in the Sudbury area in the last six months. The others were with Mystik Services Inc., Xstrata Nickel and Finlandia Care Services.

The union said it is currently in negotiations with NORCAT and First Nickel, and will soon start negotiating with the University of Sudbury.
