The Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre Foundation is again accepting applications for student bursary awards.

A total of six bursaries will be awarded - three at the secondary school level and three at the post-secondary level. These bursaries will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $2,000.

At the secondary school level, the three bursaries have been named in recognition of individuals volunteer commitment and leadership to the cancer centre. The bursaries are named in honour of founding chair of the foundation Gerry Lougheed Jr., school principal Bruce Hatton and board member Sister Rachelle Watier.

The three post-secondary bursaries are open to graduate students in a Masters or Ph.D program relevant to cancer research, programs relating to radiation treatment or oncology nurses interested in pursuing post-registered nursing studies.

A bursary is named for Dr. Randy Bissett to recognize his leadership as CEO of the cancer centre and his commitment to research. Another is named for Judy Herold, a volunteer for 30 years who felt seriously about supporting young people in their pursuit of education in the field of cancer.

Applications must be submitted by March 26, 2004 to qualify for funding for the 2004-05 school year.
