The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is again calling for nominations for the 2025 induction season.

Each year, the Mining Hall of Fame seeks out remarkable individuals for inclusion into the prestigious ranks of notable people who had made outstanding contributions representing Canada in the global mining industry.

Over the years the names of Canada's mining leaders have left a legacy of achievements and have served as inspirations for future generations in the field, said a news release from the organization.

Janice Zinck, chair of the hall of fame, said Canada is currently in an historic phase as the industry is building on the development of global essential minerals.

“The Canadian mining industry is at the forefront of the global energy transition, poised to deliver the supply of essential minerals and metals for the future. This transformative moment capitalizes on our industry’s rich legacy of achievements. With pride, the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame commemorates the visionary leadership that has molded our mining sector into the formidable force it represents today,” said Zinck.

She is also executive director of Geoscience and Mines at the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables in Nova Scotia.

Nominations to the hall of fame must be submitted through recognized member organizations or associate member organizations. These include the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM); Mining Association of Canada; The Northern Miner; The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada; The Mining Associations of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, as well as the Association for Mineral Exploration.

Any organization or member of the public is encouraged to nominate a candidate, provided the nomination is routed through one of the aforementioned organizations, said a hall of fame news release.

The nomination deadlines for 2025 are as follows:

-May 1, 2024: Deadline to approach a member or associate member organization regarding a nomination for induction.

-May 31, 2024: Deadline for submission of nomination materials to a member or associate member organization for review.

Further details on the hall of fame nomination process are posted online.

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to celebrate the individual leaders in the industry.   Since that time, more than 170 industry leaders have been inducted who demonstrate excellence. These individuals are explorers, company builders and community builders. They are geologists, engineers and philanthropists. Above all, they are proud champions of Canadian mining.
