This year, Giving Tuesday is Nov. 28, and Cambrian College is using the occasion to support a major new project for students.

A portion of the college is being reimagined and renovated into a new student service hub, to be managed by Cambrian Student Council.

The new student hub will help fill the social and educational needs of all Cambrian students. New spaces will be made available for studying, cultural activities, hobby exploration and socializing and access to vital services such as the student food bank and more.

“This will be a place where community grows and thrives and where students will have resources to develop their skills and express their passions,” said Cambrian College President Kristine Morrissey. “This will be a welcoming space, for those who may be grappling with feelings of isolation and loneliness, providing them with a comforting place they can truly call home.”

Through the contributions of corporate donors, donations on this day are being matched in three unique areas:

Supporting current and future needs tied to the hub space. Donations matched up to $5,000 by Pioneer Construction and Fisher Wavy.

Supporting the integration of new and enhanced services in the hub space, including an expanded student food bank and on-site legal counsel. Donations matched up to $5,000 by Mr. Nero Contracting & Restoration and Spectrum Group.

Supporting space retrofits to integrate lounge areas, student club rooms, study and meeting spaces and various maker/hobby rooms. Donations matched up to $10,000 by Lopes Ltd.

Donors also have the option to direct their donations towards a fund they are already supporting or allocate them to a different area of need within the College.

"We're deeply thankful for the generous support of our donors, valued matching partners, and our entire community, year after year on Giving Tuesday,” says Melanie Cacciotti, Cambrian College's executive director of alumni and development. "Working together, we're forging a path towards a more vibrant and inclusive future for all our students.”
