To commemorate Cambrian College’s 50th anniversary and look forward to its next 50 years, the college is asking members of the community and its alumni to suggest and contribute items for a time capsule.

Cambrian memorabilia will be considered for inclusion in a display case that will be located in the college’s front foyer this fall. The deadline to make suggestions is Friday, Aug. 11. All suggestions will be evaluated and a short list will be revealed on August 21. The items included in the time capsule will be selected through a voting process.

As one of Cambrian’s 50th-anniversary committee co-chairs, Rick Fedec, a retired college administrator, is encouraging submissions from the community that will create a picture of the past as a gift to future generations.

“Over the past 50 years, tens of thousands of people have studied, lived, learned, and worked at Cambrian College. Their stories and memorabilia are an important part of our history and identity," he said. "As committee co-chair, I’m hearing interesting stories and suggestions, and learning about unique pieces of college memorabilia that people have cherished for decades."

Kathy Wells-McNeil, a graduate of Cambrian’s Nursing program, co-chairs the 50th anniversary committee with Fedec.

“It’s exciting to see suggestions coming in that show how Cambrian has shaped people’s lives," she said. "For the college and the community it’s important, and even transformative, to look at the past 50 years.

"When we look at this evolution, we see how changes at the college reflect society. Of course, this is also a tremendous opportunity to come together, and to imagine new ways to serve future generations over the next 50 years.”

Anyone with interesting items, or even stories, to add to the collection is encouraged to visit cambriancollege.ca/timecapsule

They may also contact Cambrian College’s Alumni office at by phone, email, or in person with their suggestions.

Items will not be collected or accepted until they are evaluated.
