Cambrian College will honour Michael Atkins, president of Laurentian Media Group which owns Northern Life, and Cambrian alumnus Daniel Xilon at its 39th annual Convocation ceremonies this week.
Atkins will receive the prestigious Dr. Fred Sheridan Award this Thursday. Daniel Xilon, administrator, Sudbury Food Bank, will receive the Cambrian College Alumni Award Friday, May 25.
The Dr. Fred Sheridan Award recognizes contributions to the advancement and betterment of society through extraordinary service to education.
Atkins has been an active participant on numerous boards, including the Sudbury Theatre Centre, the Greater Sudbury and Ontario Chambers of Commerce, and the Sudbury Family YMCA. Atkins is chair of the Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT) and a member of the board of governors of Laurentian University.
