Cat save rates over 80 per cent at shelter

No cats euthanized due to space constraints in 2016
The Rainbow District Animal Shelter cat save rate hit 76 per cent of cats received in March either adopted or approved for adoption.

The save rate for the first quarter of 2016 is 83 per cent with nearly all the cats from February finding new homes.

The shelter has started tracking feral cats and they made up 11 per cent of intakes and more than 70 per cent of euthanized cats in the first quarter of 2016.

So far in 2016 no cats have been euthanized for space constraints and if feral cats are taken out of the equation the save rate for cats would have been 95 per cent.

These rates are a 30 per cent improvement over 2015 and a 50 per cent improvement over the save rate in 2009.

“We attribute these improvements to impressive adoption numbers at our partner adoption centres,”  said a news release from the shelter.

“Along with our new fast tracking of adoptable cats program, our new partnership with the North Bay Spay/Neuter Clinic and the flexibility our new agreement with the City of Greater Sudbury provides for.”
