A long-established program at Lockerby Composite School is getting a refresh this fall.

Changes to the Science and Technology Education Program (STEP) will be unveiled at Lockerby’s Open House Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.

“STEP has enjoyed a rich tradition of excellence since its inception as our students learn while experimenting, analyzing, designing, and building, and our program continues to evolve,” said Principal Ryan Lafraniere.

“We are excited to share that our program has been restructured and reimagined to keep pace with the latest trends in science and technology. In our enriched learning model, students collaborate with community partners to solve complex problems in real-life settings.

“The exciting changes will ensure that our program remains relevant and responsive, giving students an exceptional educational experience.  A highlight of our new year-long schooling model will be STEP Integration Days that will feature community mentorships and experiential learning opportunities as students become part of unique specialization studies in their senior years. Students who qualify for STEP receive transportation to and from school.”

In addition to medical biology, medical technology, and design technology courses, Lockerby students enjoy a number of programs and co-curricular opportunities that allow them to showcase their artistic, musical and athletic expression. Lockerby Composite School also offers Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) in Health and Wellness, Information and Communication Technology, and Mining with a focus on Engineering.

“Our commitment to school life through our co-curricular offerings continues to be our school strength,” said Lafraniere. “During our Open House on January 18, prospective students, whether part of STEP or not, will be able to speak to current students and staff while touring our building. Families will be able to see and feel how Lockerby Composite School creates a strong sense of belonging for all students.”

All students and their parents/guardians are invited to participate in Lockerby Composite School’s Open House, regardless of which elementary school they currently attend. Those unable to attend in person are welcome to visit lockerbyopenhouse.ca.

Lockerby Composite School offers programming in English and French Immersion from Grades 9 to 12.

Lockerby is located at 1391 Ramsey View Court in Sudbury.
