Cochrane man faces murder charge after 70-year-old woman goes missing

(COCHRANE, ON) – On May 9, 2016, members of the North East Region Criminal Investigation Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Colleen McCormick of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), laid a charge in relation to the investigation of missing Cochrane resident, 70-year-old Aline Lalonde (also known as Aline NEW).

As a result of the investigation, the OPP has charged, Richard NEW, a 41 year old male from Cochrane, with second degree murder.  The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on May 13, 2016.

The Ontario Provincial Police is continuing their investigation to search for the victim. A number of specialty units have been called in to assist.  Resources currently involved in the search include: the OPP helicopter, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, the OPP North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), the OPP North East Region Canine, and the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Behavioural Sciences.
