This weekend, residents of the Prism Co-op Neighbourhood in Cambrian Heights will be showing their community spirit
Lionel Dequanne and the members of the Prism Co-op Social Committee are hosting their first annual Christmas In July, running Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This small residential community has decided to organize such celebrations as their way of generating community spirit among the people living in the Cambrian Heights and Ryan Heights areas. Their goal is to encourage more interaction between the various co-op and social housing neighbourhoods.
In an email, Ward 5 Coun. Bob Kirwan said Dequanne has been “overwhelmed with the level of support” from local businesses and organizations.
“He has found that so many more people are willing to help and this has made it possible for his small team to prepare a community celebration that will be fun for the entire family,” Kirwan said. “This whole event is a reflection of the emerging partnerships among several area neighbourhoods and organizations who are dedicated to working together to improve the community. It is truly an example of a vibrant community of communities living together.
Events include a BBQ hosted by Leon’s, inflatables for children, yard sales, cotton candy and popcorn, an ice cream truck, a fair food market, entertainment by the Sparkly Sisters, and, of course, Santa Claus. There will also be several vendors on the site and there will be plenty of Christmas music and decorations.
