One of Canada's most successful medical fundraising events is happening again this year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual CIBC Run For The Cure will take place on Sunday October 3, 2021 in Sudbury and all across Canada. The difference this year is that friends and supporters will be invited to form their teams and collect pledges — just as they've always done — but the actual running event can be done in your own neighbourhood or favourite running trail.

In the Sudbury area, supporters are invited to sign up on the local webpage to register their team or to add support to existing teams.

Already, Sudbury has two dozen teams on the roster with names such as Team Faith, Team CIBC Sudbury, the Pink Monkeys, the Pink Hooligans and Boobies For The Win.

The importance of the annual fundraiser is to help the Canadian Cancer Society and provide essential funding to support Canadians throughout their breast cancer journey. Every day, 75 Canadians are diagnosed with breast cancer.  It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for Canadian women. To help ensure no Canadian faces breast cancer alone, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and CIBC invite Sudbury residents to support the 30th annual CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 3, said a news release from the organization.

As work continues for this year's run, supporters are invited to upload the mobile app. This will help Sudbury residents to create and customize their own virtual running events, fundraise to unlock rewards and track their activity.

The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest, single-day, event dedicated to raising funds for the breast cancer cause. Last year, this national movement brought together more than 25,000 participants and raised $9.5 million in communities across Canada. Since the event began in 1992, the CIBC Run for the Cure has raised more than $471 million for breast cancer research and support. Donate or learn more at CIBCRunForTheCure.com
