City council passed a last-minute motion asking for the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care to consider keeping the Memorial Hospital site open to accept alternate level care patients.

The addition to the Jan. 12 city council agenda was put forward by Ward 2 Coun. Jacques Barbeau.

The motion states “there are and still will be ALC patients at the main site of the Sudbury Regional Hospital requiring accommodation.” It asks the site remain open until a new and permanent facility is available.

The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews, Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci and Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas will also receive a copy.

The Memorial Site is slated to close in March. Patients housed there will be housed in at Pioneer Manor and St-Gabriel Villa in Chelmsford.
