If it seems extra cold to you today, there's a good reason.
Greater Sudbury could set a record cold temperature today, if Environment Canada's forecast holds true.
Afternoon temperatures were at -14.5 C, a fraction warmer than the current record holder for low temperatures on Nov. 12. That was set in 1986, when the mercury fell to -14.6 C.
Hourly temperatures are forecast to hit -15 by 9 p.m. today, and -16 by 10 p.m. A new record could be in store for Wednesday, as well. The record for Nov. 13 is -18.7 C, also set in 1986. Overnight temperatures are expected to reach -20 by 4 a.m. Wednesday.
In addition to the cold snap, a snow squall watch is in effect for Greater Sudbury, with up to 25 cm possible beginning Wednesday afternoon.
