The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. issued a fourth-quarter payment of $559,369 to Greater Sudbury last week, its share of gambling revenue from the OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs.

To date, the city has received more than $29.3 million in non-tax gaming revenue.

“OLG gaming sites provide numerous benefits for host communities across the province,” said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci in a press release. “In addition to job creation and increased tourism, the gaming revenue payments allow municipalities to make significant investments in local priorities.”

In 2012-2013, the province allocated $120 million in gaming revenue to support charities through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which helps build strong and healthy communities, the release said.

In addition, every year the province allocates funding to prevent problem gambling, as well as for treatment and research programs.

The amount for 2012-2013 was $41 million.

Last spring, the OLG announced an end to the slots program, which saw gaming revenue shared between Ontario racetracks, municipalities and the province.

It’s embarking on a casino-building plan in 29 gaming zones, including Sudbury. The OLG hopes to pick a developer for the Sudbury casino by the end of 2013.
