Residents are being encouraged by the City of Greater Sudbury to show their community pride by participating in a two-hour Cleanup Blitz from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5.

Participants are asked to do their part by spending two hours picking up roadside litter.

Mayor Marianne Matichuk will be participating in this year's blitz by helping clean up Bell Park, according to a press release.

“Helping keep this beautiful city clean and safe is everyone's responsibility,” Matichuk said. “Two hours can make a big difference and getting involved in your community is an important responsibility we all share.”

This year's prizes include:
- a Big Blue
- a backyard composter
- a year's supply of certified compostable bags

Each participant must pre-register by May 1. Residents can register a group at any Citizen Service Centre or by downloading the registration package from greatersudbury.ca/wastemanagement and faxing the form back to 705-671-1148 or emailing it to [email protected].

Safety vests, gloves and garbage bags will be supplied.

All participants must review safety tips and sign a waiver. Waivers can be submitted to the city after the event, no later than May 11. Names of participants listed on the waiver forms will have their names entered in a draw for an opportunity to win prizes.
