Support community radio and maybe throw a few sheckles the way of CKLU Radio 96.7 FM during pledge week this week.

The annual pledge week kicked off on Monday and continues through to March 1. To support CKLU 96.7 during Pledge Week 2020, go to CKLU.ca and click on the Donate button.

Acclaimed opera singer Peter McGillivray has already hosted an hour this week, as has seasoned DJ and CKLU alumni Skip Viitala, who made the trip up from Barrie to the CKLU studios to present a live broadcast of his nationally syndicated programs “Ska Party” and “Radio Hootenanny.”

Singer/songwriter Jennifer Holub was the host chair on Tuesday, while Max Merrifield, a.k.a. Max Silverstongue, is on from 10 p.m. to midnight tonight (Feb. 26). Merrifield, the artistic director of Northern Lights Festival Boreal, is expected to give a sneak peek at some of the artists featured at NLFB's Bloom Festival, March 6-7.

Tomorrow morning (Feb. 27) from 9-11 a.m., an LGBTQ+ program will be hosted by Garrett Carr, a familiar CKLU voice.

Our very own editor, Mark Gentili, takes over the host chair on Feb. 27 from 1-2 p.m. Gentili solicited musical choices from his wife and kids, which he’ll share throughout his hour. Expect an eclectic mix of tunes.

Gentili plans on spending his hour sharing some thoughts on local issues and local news, and he invites listeners to call in with questions, or tweet questions to him on Twitter. You can find him @MarkGentili.

Actor and comedian Bill Sanders brings his irreverent sense of humour to the air from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday.

Christian Pelletier, a founder of the Up Here Festival, hosts from 9-11 p.m. on Thursday evening. He's a no-holds-barred, plugged-in, seasoned host and if his guest spot during last year’s Pledge Week is any indication, we’re in for a whirlwind of interactive radio.

On Friday, Feb. 28, Peter Williams, a well-known personality from CBC Radio and CTV, entertains in his inimitable, comic way. He has stage hosted for numerous festivals in the city for many years and always has great stories and music to share! Don't miss Peter from 3-4 p.m. on Friday.

No stranger to CKLU and part of the station's long history, Paul Loewenberg takes over from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday.  His show, “Monster a Go-Go,” was a mainstay at the station for over two decades. A special live reprise will happen for a mini-marathon on the history of rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, soul, funk, punk & everything in-between.

Listen in and support community radio in the Nickel City.
