The board of governors of Collège Boréal announced last week that president of the college, Gisèle Chrétien, will step down on February 3, 2006.

"In her role as president, Ms. Chrétien worked relentlessly during the last seven years to ensure the success of the College. She piloted often difficult dossiers, she instilled a dynamic team spirit and she represented the College in an exemplary way at all levels,? said board chair Guill Archambault.

The decision wasn't easy to make, said Chretien

"I know that I leave a committed Board of Governors, an exceptional management team, an extraordinary staff and a unique college...I am proud of our successes. I am sure that through our personnel?s active participation in the strategic planning process during our recent conference, we have provided major breakthroughs for the years to come,? she said.

Chrétien has been the President of Collège Boréal since December, 1998. She was previously acting president of the same college. Ms. Chrétien is currently vice-chair of the board of directors of TVOntario and vice-chair of the board of directors of the Sudbury Regional Hospital.

In March 2005, Gisèle Chrétien received the Community Builders Award in the Education category. The awards, which are organized by Laurentian Media, are presented to leading personalities from the Sudbury region.
