Community Builders managing director Carly Gasparini and Future North program director Kamilah Francis are seen during this week’s grand opening of their organizations’ new space at 955 Cambrian Heights Drive.

Community Builders and Future North hosted an open house to celebrate the opening of their shared space earlier this week.

“Getting into this great shop space was the next step in establishing ourselves in Greater Sudbury,” Community Builders managing director Carly Gasparini said in a media release. “Our ability to share the space with Future North is an exciting way for us to build on a mutually beneficial relationship.”

Community Builders is a social enterprise construction not-for-profit that trains people with barriers to employment, and Future North is a youth advocacy network dedicated to helping youth navigate services.

By sharing a space, the goal is for the two organizations “to support each other as they grow.”

Community Builders has been in the space at 955 Cambrian Heights Dr. since early September, in time for a new group of people to start training in construction and employment skills.

“The new shop and classroom space allows our trainees to learn in an interactive environment,” Community Builders training program co-ordinator Kacey Jewers said in a media release.

The organization is in the process of completing renovations to include an enclosed classroom space and lunch room within the next few months, at which time their training capacity will grow by 20 people with barriers to employment per cohort.

“Future North needed a space where youth could feel welcome and access our staff and

services” Future North program director Kamilah Francis said in a media release

“Partnering with Community Builders to share this space allows us to expand the programming we are offering to youth in our community and helps us to build our community partnerships as we transition to being an independent Non-Profit.”
