A community forum about contaminated soils called Toxic Tresspass: A Tale of Three Cities has been organized by the Community Committee on the Sudbury Soils Study for Feb. 28.

The forum will take place starting at 4:30 p.m. in room C-11 at Tom Davies Square. Activists and experts will speak about how mining has contaminated the soils in Sudbury, Port Colborne, Ontario, and Belledune, New Brunswick.

Speakers will include Inka Milewski, science advisor and health watch director for the Conservation Council of New Brunswick and Diana Wiggins from the Port Colborne group Neighbours Helping Neighbours.

"The three communities have all been affected by decades of toxic releases from smelters and refineries operated by Vale Inco and Xstrata, and all three have been the subject of risk assessments to determine the level of cleanup required," said a press release.

"The biggest issue in Port Colborne is nickel contamination, and in Belledune it's lead, while both nickel and lead have been identified as key concerns in the Sudbury Soils Study process."
