Ward 11 candidate Terry Kett says taxpayers in the City of Greater Sudbury can’t afford to pay for both the Kingsway Entertainment District project and The Junction arts hub in the downtown core.

Saying the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce (GSCC) “makes a good point” when, in an election platform document it produced, the GSCC tied investment to economic growth, but tied the success of the two big projects mentioned to the financial and operating plans.

“(The chamber) acknowledges that strategic investment spurs economic growth. However, it expects council to provide ‘sound and transparent financial & operating plans for both the Kingsway Entertainment District and the Junction’,” Kett said.

Saying the chamber believes the public needs to know how the projects will impact property tax rates, Kett wonders why this hasn’t already been done.

“You would think that this would have already been done,” said the former city councillor. “Sadly, we are in the dark as to what these two projects will cost. I believe strongly that we can’t afford both. We need to refocus. Set our priorities after public consultation and stick to them. Let’s do what we can afford!”
