Cupcakes for Cancer has returned and its organizer is hoping to double up on the success of the first fundraiser.

In 2015, Alexis Fong baked and sold 500 cupcakes, raising $2,200 for the Northern Cancer Foundation.

After a year off, Fong is back with 1,000 cupcakes in hopes of doubling the funds raised.

"It was a big success the first time and this year it's kind of more personal, someone in my family had a battle with cancer," said Fong.

Alexis and her mother spent the week leading up baking the cupcakes and a number of volunteers helped ice and decorate them.

"There was about four sleepless nights this week, but the support has been amazing from volunteers and the community who has come out to buy the cupcakes," said Fong.

The cupcakes will be on sale for $3 each with four flavours to choose from. Fong will be at Salute Coffee Company in the city's South End until all of the cupcakes are sold.
