A CVRD Inco private road popular with Copper Cliff residents will likely be closed to the public within the next couple of months if the company follows the recommendation of a group of employees charged with studying the issue.

Residents approached the company in the spring with concerns about heavy traffic on Clarabelle Mill Rd., which connects Godfrey Dr. in Copper Cliff with Hwy. 144.

The company is concerned about people speeding and getting into accidents on the road, said Heiko Leers, manager of production services for CVRD Inco. He was one of the people who studied traffic flow on the road.

Leers was on hand to talk to Copper Cliff residents about closing the road to the public at an open house at the Copper Cliff Legion Nov. 16 between 3 and 8 pm.

A decision will be made by the company about the future of the road by the end of November, he said.

Gates would be installed at the Godfrey Dr. end of the road sometime in the next couple of months. Vehicles would need a pass to get through.

Only vehicles on CVRD Inco business, as well as emergency and mine rescue vehicles, would be able to use the road.
