On Dec. 21, 1931, Sudbury Police Const. Albert Nault began his beat patrols, but he never made it home from his shift after his body was found beside a railway shed in Sudbury.
Part of his beat included an area of the CNR freight sheds and adjoining district. Not long after he began his shift, Nault’s body was found fatally wounded.
To this day, the murder remains unsolved. His revolver was never recovered.
Nault was survived by his wife and four young children.
In 2008, the bridge on Highway 17 at the Bancroft Drive overpass was named in his memory.
“Though 89 years have passed, we will never forget Const. Nault,” said Greater Sudbury Police in a Facebook post. “He died while serving the community he loved, and his legacy will live on forever.
