Staff at Copper Cliff Library are being commended today for how they handled a tense situation yesterday.

A young man in a state of emotional distress Aug. 9 caused damage to the interior of the library in the small, close-knit community in the west end of the city.

Greater Sudbury Police confirmed the situation for Sudbury.com.

Six police cruisers attended the scene on Wednesday afternoon, but it is library staff who are getting the tip of the hat for de-escalating the situation.

"Library staff is being commended for the appropriate handling of the situation," the city said in a release today.

As a result of the incident, the library, located at 11 Balsam St., will be closed until Aug. 14 to allow for repairs.

No one was hurt in the incident. The value of the damage is unknown at this time.
