For the third day in a row, a heat warning is effect for Greater Sudbury and vicinity.

Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue today, said the notice issued by Environment Canada at 4:57 a.m. this morning.

High temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 29. Humidex values reaching near 40 are expected.

There is the chance of brief showers or thunderstorms over Northeastern Ontario today which will provide some relief from the heat.

Temperatures are expected to cool overnight into Saturday bringing this heat event to an end.

  • Watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include
  • dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting
  • headache
  • rapid breathing and heartbeat
  • extreme thirst and
  • decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

If you experience any of these symptoms during a heat event, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids. Water is best.

Frequently visit neighbours, friends and older family members, especially those who are chronically ill, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated.

Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
