Over the Easter long weekend, more than 120,000 Hydro One customers were affected by freezing rain, lightning strikes, high winds and finally flooding.

Damage was extensive and customers in the hardest hit areas were without power for up-to five days.

During that time, Hydro One’s call centre staff handled more than 150,000 calls, an average of 35 calls per minute, from customers needing to report outages or hazards or calling to get an up-dated estimated restoration time.

Rather than be one of the thousands of callers wanting an update on restoration times, Hydro One customers can sign up and enjoy the ease of having a text or email sent directly to them when the power goes out near their home or cottage along with updates on restoration times.

Customers just need to register for the Company’s new free Outage Alerts service through the Hydro One My Account portal at HydroOne.com/MyAccount. Pick from text or email or both along with the frequency of the up-dates you wish to receive.

Hydro One is the first utility in Canada to offer its customers this service which is part of the Company’s improved outage communications tools, which also includes Storm Centre, the outage map on www.HydroOne.com and the company’s popular outage app.
