Although seven CP Rail cars jumped the tracks in the downtown railyard on April 13, the company says the event should not be a cause for concern.

CP spokesperson Salem Woodrow told NorthernLife.ca in an email that "a slow-moving derailment" of seven cars containing lumber and wood pulp products occured at around 5:45 p.m. on Monday.

All cars remained upright, Woodrow said, and no material spilled out.

Woodrow also said the derailment didn't impact CP's main line.

An investigation is underway.

Original story

NorthernLife.ca has calls out regarding a Canadian Pacific train that possibly jumped the tracks across from the Brady Street underpass over the course of the night.

Very little information about the incident is available at this time. A man who lives on Riverside Drive told NorthernLife.ca he was awoken at around 3 or 4 a.m. woken by loud noises.

Neal Haskett said workers had flood lights set up and were "banging" on the tracks loudly as they worked. From his backyard, Haskett said he could see the train was off the tracks.

He said this is the second time in about two years train cars jumped the track in that same location.

"It's hugely concerning," he said.

The train jumped the track right above the Brady Street underpass, he said. There is real potential for the cars to topple down onto Brady Street and into traffic.

NorthernLife.ca has called CP Rail regarding the incident. This story will be updated as new information comes available.
