Pipeline failure to blame

A pipeline failure means the neighbourhood off York Street near Bell Park is not only without water, when the water is turned back on, residents will be under a drinking advisory.

The drinking water advisory issued by Sudbury & District Health Unit is effective immediately for residents on Lancaster Drive, Windsor Crescent, Tudor Court, Gloucester Court and York Street between Hillsdale Crescent and Gloucester Court.

A pipeline failure is to blame for the water loss. City crews are currently working to restore the connection. However, due to the loss of pressure, a drinking water advisory is in place until testing confirms the water is safe to drink.

This is standard procedure whenever there’s a loss of pressure in a municipal water system.

“It is possible that the loss of water pressure created conditions that compromised the safety of the drinking water,” said Burgess Hawkins, a manager in the Health Unit’s Environmental Health Division. “Until bacteriological testing of the drinking water indicates a safe supply, the drinking water advisory will remain in effect as a precaution.”

People on the affected streets should not use municipal water for any form of human consumption, including tooth-brushing, cooking or washing fruits and vegetables, until given the OK from the health unit that the water is safe. or brushing teeth. Boiling the water may not make it safe for drinking.

The water can be used for laundry and bathing (excluding small children who could swallow the water).

Affected residents can bring and fill their own reusable containers at municipal water-filling stations: on Bancroft Drive near Moonlight Beach Road; Spruce Street in Garson, and; Countryside Drive near the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

SDHU staff will continue to monitor the situation and will notify the municipality and residents when the drinking water advisory is lifted.
