Driver in critical condition after crash on Hwy. 17

A 23-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle he was driving collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 17 around 6:40 a.m. on Friday.

A 23-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle he was driving collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 17 around 6:40 a.m. on Friday. 


An Ontario Provincial Police investigation revealed the victim was travelling westbound when his vehicle struck a tractor trailer travelling eastbound.

The male driver of the tractor trailer, 59, was also taken to hospital by ambulance where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.


The investigation is continuing with the help of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator who are currently on-scene.

Highway 17 was reopened around 3 p.m.

Highway 17 west is closed at Manninen Road near Nairn Centre due to a two-vehicle collision.

The Ontario Provincial Police have closed the highway in both directions.
