Drugs seized, multiple arrests made in Espanola

Six people were arrested by OPP in Espanola on Dec. 8, when police executed a search warrant

A search warrant executed by OPP in Espanola resulted in the arrest of six people on Dec. 8.

Approximately 15 grams of suspected fentanyl was seized alongside nine grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and more than 62 grams of suspected crack cocaine.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized was approximately $17,000, and police also located about $775 in Canadian currency.

The arrest took place at approximately 6 p.m. at a residence in Albert Street, and came as a result of an OPP Community Street Crime Unit executing a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team.

The six people arrested include:

  • A 19-year-old Toronto resident charged with:
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    • Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) CC
  • A 59-year-old Espanola resident charged with:
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  • A 23-year-old Sudbury resident charged with:
    • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  • A 32-year-old Espanola resident charged with: 
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  • A 30-year-old Espanola resident charged with: 
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  • A 36-year-old Espanola resident charged with:
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
    • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

The 19-year-old Toronto man will appear in Espanola court on Jan. 16, and the other six will appear in Espanola court on Feb. 13.
