The student teams from École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) were dominant at the 13th annual French-language Battle of the Books competition, held April 26 at Collège Boréal.

The school finished second overall while also winning the Team Spirit Award. It's the third year in a row they've claimed the silver.

The following students are members of the Alliance St-Joseph team: Mathieu Lavallée, Nikolas Chevrier, Véronique Coutu, Ashley Boulard, Jacob Lapierre, Haven Fournier, Roxanne Roussel and Hope Thurlow.

The team was coached by Joanne Mitchell and Francine Braconnier with the support of fellow school colleagues Alexie Blais, Aleena Gauthier, Nicolas Robillard and Mackaylee Maillet. The team also benefited from the energy and support of Jordyn Montpellier as school mascot.

Organized by the Greater Sudbury Public Library, the competition enabled nine French-language Catholic and public schools from the community to read 30 books before taking part in the competition aimed at promoting enthusiasm for books and reading among students and promoting literacy in schools.

The program was created to stimulate enjoyment of recreational reading in grades 4, 5 and 6 by encouraging students to read more books written by authors they already enjoy and to discover new authors.
