The Conseil scolaire catholique (CSC) Nouvelon has announced the appointment of Ginette Castro as the new vice-principal of École secondaire catholique Champlain in Chelmsford.

Casto was born and raised in Chelmsford and graduated from École secondaire catholique.

She moved to the Ottawa region years later and began teaching for the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est in 2008, specializing in special needs education and student guidance,

Around two years later, Casto joined Collège catholique Franco-Ouest, where she gained experience in the field of guidance, continuing education, and teaching.

“Ms. Castro’s knowledge and experience, as well as her links with Chelmsford and the CSC Nouvelon will make her a great asset in her new role. Our principals and vice-principals play a key role in our Catholic professional learning community,” said Ms. Lyse-Anne Papineau, director of education at the CSC Nouvelon in a press release.

“We greatly value the capabilities and leadership skills that enable them to engage our students and staff in raising their standards.”

Sudbury's French-language Catholic school board provides programming from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,700 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.

Casto will step into her role Nov. 25.
