The Weather Network has released its fall forecast and while Sudbury will be seeing weather that resembles the seasonal average, we could be in for a bit of a shock to the system when the calendar turns to October.

Unseasonably warm temperatures have graced Sudbury with a late summer in the past few days, but we'll be returning to seasonal norms as we move through the week, with temperatures in the high teens rather than the high 20s.

Weather Network meteorologist Brad Rousseau says that Sudburians will likely be treated to one last snap of summer as September comes to a close, though that will mean a bit of a shock to the system once October rolls around.

"It's looking like there's going to be another burst of warm air at the end of September," said Rousseau. "But early October is going to be quite an abrupt change of weather when it goes from 26 degrees feeling like 30, down to the high teens."

Overall, October will be close to its seasonal average in terms of temperature, with the average high for the month sitting at 10 degrees C. If you don't have an umbrella, you may want to pick one up as Rousseau says the month could be more stormy than normal.

"October is looking a bit more unsettled than usual," said Rousseau. "For the entire season though, it's looking like you guys will be close to your seasonal average as November is trending a bit below norm so things will balance out over the course of the next two months."

Between September and November, Sudbury receives 238 mm of rain on average.

In addition to the possibility of less rain in November, the month is known to see some snow, though that's a bit too far off to project at this point.

"I know people don't want to hear about snow right now, but November isn't free of snow in Sudbury and you guys usually get about 30 cm of snow for the month," said Rousseau.

Barring a cold snap, Sudburians shouldn't expect much snow in October, as temperatures don't tend to hold steady below zero until November.

"You won't see consistent temperatures below freezing until November," said Rousseau. "The average high for November is 2.5 degrees C, and the low is about -4."
