Last winter, Evangelina Bovay-Larose spent a few chilly afternoons hanging up coats around downtown Sudbury for those in need.

The Lively youngster's latest philanthropic mission is one where she's thankful to lose some extra warmth.

The nine-year-old to be will be chopping off 14 inches of her own hair July 26 to donate to Angel Hair for Kids.

It's been more than two years since Evangelina has cut her hair and she's not nervous in the least about going for a more cropped look for a good cause.

“Some kids who have to do chemotherapy don't have any hair,” said Evangelina. “All of my friends were getting their hair cut, and mine is still so long, and it's hot in the summer.”

Evangelina got the idea to pitch in when her grandfather was hospitalized with kidney and lung cancer. This time around for her fundraising, it's an effort that spans three generations, as her mother, Mallory, and grandmother, Monique, are also involved.

“My mother and I are both participating in Mudmoiselle, which raises money for the Canadian Cancer Society,” said Mallory. “Evangelina is still too young because you need to be at least 13 to participate, but the money she's raising is going towards our team's efforts.”

Each Mudmoiselle team is given a goal of raising at least $500, and Mallory's team has already brought in $425 with the race still more than a month away on Aug. 20.

Evangelina's haircut will happen on July 26 at Courtney Cuts in Lively, and the youngster is also planning to run a lemonade stand and collect empty bottles to help raise money for her mom and grandmother's team.
