The Fierté Sudbury Pride festival, which takes place July 9 to 15, is the “most dynamic” one yet, with more than 30 events in 23 venues throughout the week, say organizers.

The flag raising ceremony takes place at James Jerome Sports Complex Monday, July 9 at 11 a.m.

Other annual events include Family Day in the park, which will be held at Memorial Park July 14 starting at noon.

Family Day leads into the annual Pride march, which will begin in the park at 2 p.m. and make its way through downtown Sudbury.

This year the pride parade will include messaging from Fierté Sudbury Pride which will be advocating for the continuation of the current sexual education curriculum as well as other relevant queer issues.

Our annual Pride Prom, which is a welcoming space for queer and allied youth to experience a safe and stigma-free prom, will be held on July 13 at the Sudbury Theatre Center, starting at 7 p.m.

The event is for youth 18 years and under and is a completely free event thanks in part to the Greater Sudbury Police Services’ Chief’s Youth Initiative Fund.

Building on the overwhelming success of last year’s Big Gay Cabaret, Pride is excited to host its only in-festival fundraising event on July 12 at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at The Sudbury Theatre Center, La Fromagerie, Good Luck General Store and Cosmic Dave’s Vinyl Emporium for only $20.

New to the program this year is our Pride Vigil, which will be held on July 10 at Memorial Park at 6 p.m.

The vigil will welcome survivors and will hold space for the memories of those who have passed from HIV, suicide and violence.

This event will unveil an interactive community art installation that will collectively house artwork from individuals who have experienced HIV, suicide or violence in their lives.

“Fierté Sudbury Pride feels it is important that we stand together on these issues which disproportionately affect our community,” said a press release.

Also new to the program is our Pride discussion panel which will host LGBTQ2SA+ academic speakers which include Laurel O’Gorman (PhD candidate from Laurentian University), Suzanne Mills (PhD, McMaster University), and researchers from the Laurentian University LGTBQS+ Climate Study.

This event will be held at the Fromagerie on July 15 at 1 pm, and is free to attend.
