Finish restructuring, urges Gordon

Sudbury Mayor Jim Gordon called on city administrators to stay the path and continue with the job of restructuring in order to keep taxes down.
Sudbury Mayor Jim Gordon called on city administrators to stay the path and continue with the job of restructuring in order to keep taxes down.

In a press release issued yesterday, Gordon stated that the cityÂ?s general managers should follow stage two of the amalgamation plan which called for Â?further merging sections of departments and offering a voluntary exit package for [the cityÂ?s] unionized staff.Â?

City administrators proposed to take $7 million from the reserves to hold down the budget for this year.

Gordon believes that the money should be spent on roads, not on what he called Â?hiding the truth.Â?

Â?The $7 million proposed to be taken from reserves to hold this yearÂ?s budget down is just a bandaid, hiding the fact that weÂ?re not restructuring as we were supposed to,Â? said the mayor.

City administators agreed to bring to Council a report outlining the voluntary exit package for the cityÂ?s unionized staff.

Â?I and council expect them to provide clear options on how they can restructure their departments to achieve the savings predicted, not reasons why they canÂ?t,Â? said Gordon.
