The incident took place less than a week after an early morning fire destroyed an Alder Street apartment, the cause of which is also still under investigation. Residents in the area said the building contained two apartments. The building had been under renovations for some time, and that work was just wrapping up before the fire broke out on Nov. 6.

While no one was hurt in either incident, Sudbury’s fire department is reminding everyone of the importance of being prepared in case of an emergency.

“Develop and practise a home fire escape plan,” the department said in a release. “In case a fire starts, everyone must know two ways out of every room, if possible. Get out and stay out.

“Don’t try to save possessions – go directly to your meeting place outside.”
