Two people have been displaced, but there were no injuries in a major house fire Saturday in Dowling.

Greater Sudbury Fire crews were called at 2:50 p.m. to a location on Highway 144. A total of 25 firefighters from six stations arrived to battle the blaze.

The estimated damage to the two-story home is $130,000, the fire department said in a news release. Both the fire damage and the smoke damage was severe, the release said.

One person was evacuated.

Firefighters remind everyone about the importance of cooking safely in your home.

“Cooking is the No. 1 cause of home fires,” the release said. “Don’t leave your cooking unattended. Always stay in the kitchen while you’re cooking – especially if using oil or high temperatures.

“If a pot catches fire, slide a proper-fitting lid over the pot and turn off the stove. Do not move the pot, let it completely cool off.”
