Firefighter Mark Leduc saw the stickers at the Signs Now store on The Kingsway. They were being sold to raise money to help those affected by the attack.

Leduc brought one of the stickers back to the fire hall and showed it to Dan Coles, chair of the public relations committee at the downtown station.

?My co-chair and I said let?s get some of those for the firefighter?s helmets,? recalled Coles.

About 120 members of Local 527 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) each contributed $1 for helmet stickers.

Assistant chief Harvey Taillon liked the helmet stickers so much the idea was floated about putting the tribute right on the emergency vehicles. The concept was approved and the green light given for the stickers to go on.

?It?s kinda a little tribute to our fallen brothers there in New York,? said Coles.
