First-degree murder charges in Wikwemikong incident

As a result of the ongoing investigation, charges against three individuals have been upgraded to first degree murder for their involvement in an altercation that resulted in the death of Percy (Junior) Simon, 33 years old.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, charges against three individuals have been upgraded to first degree murder for their involvement in an altercation that resulted in the death of Percy (Junior) Simon, 33 years old.

The incident occurred on May 17 at a home on Andre Crescent in Wikemikong Unceded First Nation No. 26.

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Acting Detective Inspector Gilles Depratto, have been continuing the investigation into the incident.

Robert Travis Wemigwans, 31, of Wikwemikong, Tammy Trudeau, 43, of Wikwemikong, and Byron Kagige, 56, of Hamilton all appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 22 to speak to the first degree murder charges.

The three have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear again on July 13 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay.
