FedNor announced a $70,060 grant for Le Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury last week.

The funding will enable the Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury to develop a new strategic plan to guide the organization over the next four years.

Specifically, the strategic plan will identify ways to grow the organization's semi-annual book fair, implement a revenue enhancement plan and reach a wider target audience.

The funding is provided through FedNor's Economic Development Initiative (EDI), which helps foster the development of new expertise in innovation, economic diversification and business growth in Northern Ontario's Francophone communities (the region's official language minority community) and capitalize on economic opportunities made possible through linguistic duality.

The Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury offers a wide variety of literary activities. Its mandate is to promote French-language education through reading and performances based on print materials of all kinds and to build knowledge, in French, through meetings, discussions, lectures and educational workshops.

"Canada's rich Francophone heritage plays an important role in strengthening and diversifying our regional economy,” said Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre, who made the announcement. “Today's investment will help promote cultural tourism in Greater Sudbury and in all of Northern Ontario."

"I would like to thank the Government of Canada for today's funding announcement, which supports the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the next four years allowing for continued growth of the Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury," said Mireille Ménard, Board President, Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury.
